AEX 25 – Stock Index Components
The AEX 25 is the benchmark index of the Dutch stock exchange Euronext Amsterdam and comprises the 25 largest listed companies in the Netherlands, measured by market capitalization and trading volume. The index is frequently used as a barometer for the health of the Dutch economy and the European stock market as a whole.
The AEX index is a price index and is calculated exclusively on the basis of share prices. The calculation is updated every second during trading hours. The index is composed according to specific criteria in which liquidity and free float play an important role. At least a quarter of the outstanding shares must be widely diversified.
Prominent companies in the AEX 25 include Royal Dutch Shell, Unilever, ING Group, and Philips. The index is regarded as the most important indicator for the Dutch stock exchange and the economic situation in the Netherlands.
